I have a 1999 Chrysler 300M. Why is My Car Overheating When the AC Is On?. Car overheats at idle, but cools when moving? My car started overheating while I was stuck in traffic, I tried revving the engine a bit to see if it would cool it down but it didn't. Not to worry, fixing a cooling fan is typically inexpensive. The car will only overheat if I'm at a long red light or if I'm driving very slowly (<15mph) for a few minutes, it doesn't matter if the A/C is on or off. Why does my ac blow warm air at idle and car overheats? (2007 Ford Edge) The first time it did this my car temp gauge was at hot and started smoking, I turned the engine off and got out and it looked like all the water was running out from under my car. Under heavy load, such as driving up long hills and/or high speeds, the temperature gauge would begin to rise, but the cabin heat would eventually begin to blow cold. EVERY time i drive it colloant leaks out of the radiator resivoir cap ( plastic one) and it was running hot one day so i did the thermostat great for about a weak then bam i was sitting in a drive thru and it was 3/4 of the way on the thermostat i pulled over added coolant for piece of mind let it coll back down then it was fine for a few more. I have a Toyota corolla, and I just replaced the radiator and the thermostat. In idle, continues up into red. Why Would a Car Overheat When Idling? A car can overheat while idling if there is not enough coolant in the radiator or there is a malfunctioning fan, radiator or fan belt. 2013 mustang gt cooling fan resistor. After I completed my drive to work (12 miles) I stopped in the parking lot and let the car idle for 1-2 minutes to see if the temp would raise above normal. But the modern engine has far less tolerance, with its aluminum blocks and, often, aluminum heads. My car overheats when driving but not in idle.
